Thrilled to announce that the documentary short film TWO LIVES IN TIGHT SOCKS, by Besim Ugzmajli, won the Critics’ Choice Award at the XXIV Annual Tirana International Film Festival in Albania.

‘Two Lives in Tight Socks’ had its world premiere this summer at the prestigious Dokufest, International Documentary and Short Film Festival, a film festival that serves as a selection stage for the European Film Awards (EFA).

Besim Ugzmajli attended the Festival with some of our dearest colleagues and friends.

SYNOPSIS:

This intimate documentary follows Rilindje through the transformative journey of pregnancy, where moments of joy are overshadowed by unexpected struggles—losing her job, enduring painful health challenges, and confronting an uncertain future. Filmed with raw honesty, the story unfolds as she and her husband dream of a new beginning in Canada, seeking dignity, stability, and hope for their child. At once personal and universal, the film reflects on resilience, love, and the fight for a better tomorrow.

Director’s Statement:

This film holds extraordinary significance for me and my wife, Rilindje.
It has been a long and difficult process, filled with many doubts about whether this story should even become a film.
Being caught in the midst of so many personal struggles while trying to turn those very struggles into cinema has been incredibly challenging for both of us.
We felt that this story needed to be shared with you, considering this as a rare and invaluable opportunity to express the pain that life itself inflicts in a country like Kosovo — a country still in transition.
The life of our son, by default, is bound to be shaped and hurt by the circumstances of a fragile state. In these difficult conditions, we couldn’t even leave Kosovo due to my wife’s health.
In Kosovo, a woman has to think long and hard before deciding to bring a child into this world.
It is this sense of absurdity that we have chosen to share with you through the medium of film — and the opportunity to do so would mean the world to us.

This is the fifth collaboration between Mailuki Films and Besim Ugzmajli. A key figure in Mailuki Films’ successful filmography.
