Cátia Biscaia

Today we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the world premiere of HER NAME IS CARLA, aka Chama-se Carla, the debut film by the wonderful Portuguese filmmaker Cátia Biscaia, at the St Louis International Film Festival in Missouri. This film event qualifies for the Hollywood Oscars.

Following this initial success, this extraordinary drama produced between Portugal and Spain was selected and awarded at countless film festivals around the world.

Cátia Biscaia is currently preparing her next project. It will be a documentary, and we will provide more details soon.

Cátia Biscaia has prepared a short statement to celebrate this unforgettable anniversary:

Before the day ends, I just want to say something… I don’t post much around here… not always, not never 😅 but today deserves a few words.

If we go back exactly four years, we’ll find ourselves at the world premiere of Chama-se Carla (Her Name is Carla), at the 30th St. Louis International Film Festival, a Class A festival and an Oscar qualifying event. At that time, I was a young woman with a one-year-old baby, who, by the way, was often in my arms while I directed my very first film.

After more than a decade working in cinema, it was in 2021 that I finally saw my own vision, a story I had also written, reach the world and be seen by thousands of people.

The journey was intense: dozens of festivals, a handful of awards and nominations, and a few bumps along the way.

In Portugal, the path was sometimes uncertain. But abroad, it touched many hearts. If my first child was Leiria Film Fest, and my second was Alice, then this film was my third.

And it only happened because of the amazing friends who believed in me and @brunocarnide , who held our hands, and to Eduardo from @mailukifilms , who helped the film travel across the ocean. It’s been four years since my film crossed the Atlantic.

And I crossed it with it. I’ll never forget that moment, no matter how many films I make after. Thank you all, and mainly to my main team:

@brunocarnide @mailukifilms @inessafrias @_tobias_monteiro @senhor.paulinho @mr.pedro.caldeira @miguelsamarao @itsricardote @su @carpemomentumfoto

How fortunate we are to have the opportunity to work alongside this extraordinary woman and filmmaker.
