Cátia Biscaia

Cátia Biscaia (Leiria, Portugal, 1983) is a Portuguese film director, producer, and screenwriter whose work focuses on independent cinema and contemporary screenwriting.
She holds a postgraduate degree in Audiovisual and Multimedia from the Lisbon School of Media and Communication, where she specialized in narrative development and auteur filmmaking.
Since 2012, she has worked across a range of short film projects as a producer and screenwriter. Her work includes the development of fiction and animated screenplays, with particular experience in script development, story structure, script editing and rewriting.
She regularly collaborates with director Bruno Carnide, a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, on independent film projects, working in production and creative development.
Since 2013, she has been the founder, festival director, and programmer of the Leiria Film Fest – International Short Film Festival. She also served as curator of the Museum of the Moving Image in Leiria, where she developed film and video art programming and curatorial projects.
Alongside her filmmaking practice, she works as a photographer, with both artistic and editorial projects recognized nationally and internationally, and teaches photography and audiovisual studies in higher education.
Her directorial debut, the award-winning short film “Her Name Is Carla” (2021), established her distinctive cinematic voice, marked by intimate storytelling and a strong focus on character.
