The Eternal Springtime, by the Vietnamese Việt Vũ won Grand Prix Documentary Short for Best Documentary at Cork International Film Festival and this is the statement of the International Jury – https://www.corkfilmfest.org/the-66th-cork-international-film-festival-2021/ciff2021-awards/
The director allows us in at a vulnerable and unsettled point between past and future. They choose to put themselves and their mother as the central point of the image in the most intimate way. While we were drawn into the nostalgic comfort of the main characters and the almost meditative pace of the voice over, the film explores with a strong visual style the relation we have to our surroundings that are changing. The jury was intrigued by this multilayered and bold film that always felt intimate and very personal and left us to reflect on our personal struggles and responsibility for our surroundings.
The Eternal Springtime is now candidate for the 2023 Oscars race as best short documentary.
