Hakan Ünal is a writer-director born in Turkey. He studied English Literature and Humanities. His first short Orange (Portakal), a black and white film has screened 40 international film festivals and won 20 awards.
In 2017, His second short Crack in the Wall (Duvardaki Çatlak) was one of the six international projects selected to the Cinephilia Screenwriting Lab for Shorts and to the Vancouver Golden Panda International Film Festival Industry Forum and won best international short film project at the 13th Cyprus International Film Festival in 2018. Crack in the Wall has made its world premiered at the 15th International Reykjavik Film Festival.
Ünal is the first Turkey based filmmaker selected to the Reykjavik International Film Festival Talents Lab in 2018. He is currently working o his debut feature Metamorphosis which has been shortlisted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018.
