About LEGACY:
Minsk, Belarus, in the summer of 2020, on a few days around Lukashenko’s ‘re-election’ – a family must decide whether to remain loyal to the regime or join the resistance. At the centre of the narrative is the photographer Pavel, whose parents have sold themselves to the system and who himself vacillates between conformity and rebellion. The relationship between father and son is the main focus of the script, but the sister and a close friend also play important pivotal roles. The different positions are unfolded dramaturgically in a convincing manner through the characters, without becoming didactic. This cleverly constructed constellation acts as a magnifying glass, revealing Europe’s past, present and future. The family’s legacy is also the legacy of the continent – complex, contradictory and without easy answers. Even though Belarus has faded from the public eye in the face of a multitude of other crises, this emotionally and politically powerful screenplay reminds us of a conflict that has lost none of its relevance.
Recently, this project has been recognised with the highest financial support from the MOIN Film Fund.
Born in Belarus, he has been living and working in Germany for years.
With the short film LAKE OF HAPPINESS, he achieved enormous success on the international film festival circuit. He was a contender for the Hollywood Oscars and the EFA European Film Awards, among many other accolades.
