Thrilled to announce that the short film The Masterpiece, by Àlex Lora, has been accepted to the 24th Annual Nevada City Film Festival, June 21-23.

Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, surrounded by the Tahoe National Forest and the wild and scenic Yuba River, are the beautifully preserved historic towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley.

Steeped in history and with the most famous gold-mining district in California, Nevada City and Grass Valley experienced a “cultural revolution” that reshaped the local economy and continues to influence the statewide arts scene. Starting in the ’60s, Beat Generation and deep ecology poet Gary Snyder, singer Utah Phillips, and a host of authors and musicians settled here. Now, an outpost for digital nomads, creative workers, cottage industry entrepreneurs, and organic farming – creativity occurs in peaceful, natural environments far from major urban centers.

The Nevada Theatre is California’s oldest existing theater building. Silent films were screened as early as 1908, and the theater underwent a remodel in 1909, retrofitted as a movie house. A slanted floor and electric lights were added in 1915. By 1957, it closed because of a sluggish economy, but it was later purchased through public donations and reopened in 1968. In 2021, the theatre received a serious glow-up, which included a stunning new hand-painted mural by Sarah Coleman, a new DCI projector, screen, and Dolby surround sound. Notable past performers include Lotta Crabtree, Mötley Crüe, Emma Nevada, Mark Twain, and The Second City comedy troupe.

The Masterpiece was premiered and awarded at Sundance Film Festival, USA; and Flickerfest International Short Film Festival, Australia.

The Masterpiece is an original idea by the also Producer Lluis Quilez. A script by Alfonso Amador and Lluis Quilez. The DOP is Manel Aguado.
Euphoria Productions produces the film in coproduction with Filmakers Monkeys, Calabaza Films and Àlex Lora.
